May I present Iorek Byrnison

My husband's favourite character (from His Dark Materials) has always
been Iorek Byrnison.  I thought it would be nice to make him a version.  Iorek is now finished but is in need of his sky iron armour.  I am not sure how to do this.  Should I felt straight onto the bear, or make it separately and then dress him?

What do you think?

  1. I think you need to make it separate and I confess I don't think it should be felt, maybe stiffened fabric or something, because it would be quite smooth compared to the texture of his body, so there is contrast. Just a thought. Think he is fabulous. Big fans of Dark materials in this house too.
    thanks for sharing

  2. If one of my things has clothes then I needle felt it directly onto the body (as in my 'Mrs Mouse' book, where both the characters have various dresses, coat and apron. But, armour sounds complicated and should be hard (I'm not familiar with the character or the books though) and in this case I would make separately and not necessarily needle felted.

  3. hum....
well first, so darn cute and well done!
I would say armor can come off, but either way is good.

  4. What a wonderful "Iorek" You have captured his essence perfectly. :)
